The harsh criticism directed toward the President is responded by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) by stating that the Indonesian poverty data as collected by officially sanction Statistical Collator Body (BPS) as well as reputable worldwide institutions have shown that there are less people live below poverty lines compare to just a few years ago.
“Thanks to our collective hard works, the number of people living below poverty line has been reduced in these last few years” Says the President at the TNI Meeting of Chiefs in Balai Samudra, Jakarta.
There are currently around 13 percent of Indonesian people living below the poverty line. SBY says even though this is a significant improvement, the actual number of people represented in the 13 percent is pretty substantial.

Not Achieving All The Targets Is Normal, It Is Not Lying
“We are not satisfied, we still need to work hard because 13 percent is still a lot when you consider the 237 million total population of Indonesia.” says SBY. SBY also said that there are still poverty area that requires help from the Government. “Remember, I have never said that this country no longer have poverty. The poverty is still there and pretty substantial, but we are trying as best as we can to systematically reduce the number” explain SBY.
SBY also explain about the mission target of the Government in 2011 which has been included in the Government Working Plan and 2011 state budget. The government mission is to encourage and speed up economic growth supported by proper management and synergy between central and local Government.
The target is economic growth of 6.4 percent, 5.3 percent inflation and to reduced poverty to 11.5 to 12.5 percent. SBY said that usually after evaluation people can see that sometimes targets are achieved but sometimes are not.”This is normal, and it is not a lie” SBY said obviously referring to the accusation from religious leaders.
To achieve those targets, SBY said, resources are required. And using terminology he knows bas tans a true blue arm forces member he said “If a brigade is attacking the enemy fort, they will require a lot of resources such as soldiers, backup, logistic and others. It is just like that”.
