Exploration drilling conducted at the Akasia Bagus – 1 (ABG) well by PERTAMINA EP in Jati Munggul Village, District Cikidung, Indramayu regency (West Java), has managed to find a structure dominant with the hydrocarbon gas.

Pertamina Refinery - Pertamina EP
Results of ABG-1 well test indicate the gas production ability of 8.6 million cubic feet (MMSCFD) and 180 barrels per day (BOPD) condensate. Exploration & Development Director Syamsu Alam said that this finding is as a result of Pertamina EP aggressive efforts to acquire new oil and gas reserves.
Pertamina EP has been conducting a vigorous exploration since the beginning of 2010. This exploration covers 26 drilling wells in various areas, 1,345 km2 of 3 dimensional seismic survey and 721 km of 2 dimensional surveys. This program is an effort to increase oil and gas production to support Indonesia growth.
The ABG-1 well started the drilling program on December 5, 2009 and reached the final depth of 3,100 m on March 22, 2010 with the main target are Baturaja Limestone Formation, Cibulakan Top Formation and Parigi Formation. The next stage will be a comprehensive evaluation of subsurface conditions for further delineation drilling. Gas extracted from this region, with further development, is expected to meet the requirement of the whole of West Java.
The discovery of this new gas reserves will strengthen Pertamina EP position as the largest gas producers for domestic demand with the current gas production levels of 1,058 MMSCFD. From this amount, 34% is supplied to the Indonesian National Gas Company (PGN), 25% to power stations, 20% for industry, 18% for fertilizer, and 3% for other Pertamina’s refinery needs.
Pertamina EP is the largest producer of both oil and gas in Indonesia. In the year 2009, Pertamina EP managed to break the oil production targets of 127.1 thousand barrels per day. This figure is above the production target that was set at 125.5 thousand barrels per day. Meanwhile, the rate of gas production of Pertamina EP in the year 2009 was 1.04 billion cubic feet per day.
