Suicide Bomber Targets Mosque Frequent By Police

Not long after the still unresolved series of book bombs that shook Jakarta, another suicide bomb blast occurred in mosque located at a Police office complex in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday. The Police Headquarters spokes person Inspector General Anton Bahrul Alam said the apparently the suspect has intentionally made the police as a target this time.

Anton said that the explosion occurred right about the start of Friday prayers after the sermon at adz-zikro mosque which is located in the Cirebon City Police compound.

24 of the 26 victims were Police officers

The suicide bombers are suspected to hide the bomb in his right abdomen behind his clothe. He blends in with other Friday prayer goers and according to witnesses was wearing black clothes and standing at the third row during the pray.

It is estimated that 26 people were injured, with 24 of which are Police officers including police chief of Cirebon, AKBP Herukotjo which are currently at the Pertamina hospital in Cirebon to remove shrapnel from his left hand. Just like Herukotjo, most of the victims were wounded from sharp objects such as nails, nuts and bolts spewing out from the bomb.

One person who died in the incident was suspected to be the suicide bomber himself estimated to be a man around 25 years of age with height of around 165 to 170 cm.

“(At the moment) there is one person who participated in the prayers that has his body exploded (due to) a suicide bombing.” said Anton.

Anton added that the body of suicide bombers is being examined by the Police team and the location of the incident is still closed pending investigation. Anton also said this suicide bomber was deliberately targeting the police.
