An explosive device reportedly exploded at radio station of Liberal Muslim Network in Utan Kayu Jakarta this afternoon. The explosive package was addressed to Ulil Abshar Abdalla, one of the editors listed on the movement website.
The Liberal Muslim Network spokesperson Sayidiman says that the package was delivered by a man with a dark skin around 10 am. The man said that inside were book that was going to be published and the author wants Ulil Abshar Abdalla to put some foreword in it. The package was received by the building receptionist who then forwarded to Sayidiman.

Upon opening the package Sayidiman was suspicious seeing cables and immediately tested it with metal detector. The test confirms Sayidiman suspicion who then reported the package to the East Jakarta Police.
The Police who came to the scene were unable to defuse the bomb which exploded injuring three Police officers and one LMN staff.
The LMN community program officer, Malda Abror says that Ulil Abshar Abdalla who is also a member of People Representative from The Democrat Party, received various threats since 2005, usually thourgh social networks such as Facebook, twitter etc. However, this is the first time that it actually materialized to action.
The Liberal Muslim Network is a movement touting a different interpretation of Islam such as open to all forms of intellectual exploration on all dimensions of Islam, prioritizing religio-ethics, not literal textual readings, believing that truth is relative, open for interpretations and plural and many other principle which may not in line with the more traditional Islam.
LMN is the only Islam movement that actually criticize the President and against the decree of banning Ahmadiyya which is considered blasphemous by other Muslim. LMN also criticize the Sajadah operation that tries to persuade Ahmadiyya member to go back to Islam. Ulil Abshar Abdalla is also very critical towards hardliners movement.
One of Ulil quote on his blog says “… Once again I say that if we (look to) find ugliness on any religions, of course it exists. We all know all religions exist today were born from pre-modern era. Not surprisingly, those religions contain many “weaknesses” seen from the viewpoint of modern consciousness.”
