Police Form Anti Anarchy Detachment To Curb Recent Anarchists

As an answer to the religious based incident that happened recently, the Indonesian Police will form a special force called Anti Anarchy Detachment. This special force will have the authority to shoot anarchist on site and will be trained with skills in mob and rioters handling.

“The authorization is not to kill but to immobilize the perpetrator” says the Indonesian Police public relation head, Comr Boy Rafli Amar in the Police headquarter in Jakarta. This force will be formed in each police district.

This Special Force only for last line of defense

The recent incident involving religious zealots such as Ahmadiyah in Cikeusik and Temanggung have shown that when faced with large crowd the police are powerless and could not control the destructive crowd.

Boy added that this special force will be the last line of defense on the field. In fact only some of the members will be equipped with bullets, the rest will only be equipped with tear gas.

“(This force) functions as a backup and not the first line of defense” says Boy. He added that this force will be deployed if for whatever reasons a peaceful public demonstration turns anarchy.

“Please note that this Anti Anarchy Detachment is not against free speech” affirms Boy, “unless the free speech turns into anarchy”

For event such as demonstration, said Boy, the Police already have established procedures for handling the crowd starting from persuasion such as dialogue.

This detachment is different from the Mass Control Unit already available for the police. The unit which will be recruited from general Police Unit and Mobile Brigadier which will have more expertise on the field handling of anarchistic incident which sometimes can be very destructive. “It is expected that they will perform better on the field,” said Boy.

This force will also be very mobile and can be deployed anywhere required. “It could be shifted anywhere, depending on needs “said Boy. They will act on the orders of the leadership of local territorial units, with supervision only from the Police Headquarters.

The number of these unit personnel is yet to be determined. Boy says this unit will not rely on numbers but more on special skills and ability.
